In an Eurogamer interview with Adam Badowski, Managing Director of CD Projekt RED, and Michal Platkow-Gilewski, Head of Marketing, the two men confirmed that CD Projekt RED’s next two titles will be multi-platform and that the developer is looking to blow away gamers with a tweaked version of their game engine. Badowski explained:
One of the new titles will be a new RPG intellectual property and the second is possibly a continuation of The Witcher franchise, but Badowski and Platkow-Gilewski were unwilling to confirm that. Nonetheless, the gentlemen did confirm that the developer plans to keep The Witcher team intact, which certainly leads to the assumption that The Witcher 3 is one of the titles.
For the new franchise, CD Projekt RED is hiring new personnel. Fortunately, the new IP will contain the mature themes and strong narrative that fans of The Witcher series have come to love, but Badowski and Platkow-Gilewski were not prepared to announce whether the game environment would be based in a medieval fantasy world or some other genre.
Planning both of these new titles for the next-gen consoles takes a little guesswork as CD Projekt RED doesn’t have dev kits for the systems and does not know the specifications of the hardware. But based on the RED Engine’s impressive results in The Witcher 2 (review), we’re excited to see what CD Projekt RED produces.
CD Projekt RED’s next release is The Witcher 2: Enhanced Edition for the Xbox 360 and it arrives on April 17, 2012.
