Chained Echoes: How SP Works

Upon completing a battle in Chained Echoes, players will earn some amount of SP, and it will be added to each character’s SP pool as well as to all the skills that they have equipped. As an example, if an old-school JRPG fan has Victor with Poetic March equipped, and they earn 10 SP in battle, then 10 SP will be added to Victor’s SP pool and the cost to upgrade his Poetic March skill will be reduced by 10. Players can view their characters’ SP pools and skills in the Set Skills menu, which plays an important role in spending SP.

Chained Echoes: How to Spend SP

In order to use a character’s SP pool to upgrade their skills, indie video game fans should simply open the Set Skills menu, select the skill to be improved, and press the input that appears next to “Level Up” in the bottom-right corner of the screen. Notably, a character must have enough SP in their pool to take the skill to its next level before any SP can be spent on it. For full clarity, this means that if a character were to have just 10 SP in their pool, the player could not spend their SP on any skills that require 11 or more to upgrade.

Chained Echoes: SP Farming

While players should have little trouble upgrading their skills through standard gameplay, it is possible to farm a large quantity of SP very quickly. In fact, fans of JRPGs with turn-based combat can do this quite early in the game by reaching a teleport crystal in the southwest corner of Rohlan Fields. Here is a route to that crystal:

Navigate to the teleport crystal at the farm on the west side of Rohlan Fields, near Basil. Head directly down from that crystal, following the stone path through the trees and eventually off the screen to the right. Continue downward to reach a screen with a large chasm. Fall into the chasm to reach a pool of water, and then continue downward over a small waterfall. Use the dirt ramp on the left to get out of the water, and then exit the screen to the left. Chained Echoes players will now be overlooking a house, and they can climb the stones on the cliff just above them. Continue climbing upward and follow the path to reach a combat encounter with five Pigears. The teleport crystal is on the screen directly below this combat encounter.

Upon reaching this crystal, pixel art fans should repeatedly slay the Pigears that are above it, teleporting to the crystal after each battle to reset the enemies. Indeed, these Pigears can be farmed for fast SP, and here are a couple tips to maximize SP gains:

Players can speed up combat animations with LT to decrease the amount of time spent in battle. Monsters with a sparkling effect award more SP (and rare loot). Use LB to quickly escape from encounters that do not feature a sparkling Pigear, only completing battles in which one appears. Make sure that the characters’ equipped skills are not already at max level.

Chained Echoes is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
